Born on 23rd January 1870, His Holiness Innokenty (Ivan Grigorievich), was among those very few who , through a vast number of articles and books, fought against the communist atheism, and for the preservation of Old Rite Orthodoxy.

He was Bishop of Nijegorodosk and Kostroma, Bishop of Kishinev, then for a short period of time – Bishop of Tulcea, after which he became Metropolitan Bishop of White Well, being anointed by the Bishops Savatiy of Slava, and Tikhon of Manchuria. His Holiness Innokenty has lived in Tulcea for a short while, then at the monk monastery from the White Well.

During World War II, the monastery where he lived was destroyed (in 1941), the only monastery remaining at that time being the nunnery Uspenia.
